Career Advising & Programs
How do I request an appointment with a career advisor?

How long are appointments?
Most appointments are scheduled for 45 minutes. They may be shorter, however, depending on the type of assistance you need.
Do I have to make an appointment or may I drop in for assistance?
Career Services offers walk-in hours for quick (10- to15-minute) resume and/or cover letter reviews or other quick questions. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit our home page for days and times for walk-in hours. If you wish to speak with someone longer than 15 minutes, we suggest you make an appointment.
Do I need to sign up for workshops or events in advance?
Generally, you do not need to pre-register for workshops or events. However, some events with eligibility requirements or space limitations may require pre-registration. Go to the left menu and click on Programs/Events for a list of upcoming events.
Interviewing & Recruiting
How do I sign up for an on-campus interview?
Sign up for on-campus interviews is through HireNKU. Links to the printed HireNKU Student Guide and HireNKU Tutorial video coming soon.
Should I skip class for an interview?
No. Career Services strongly encourages students to schedule on-campus interviews outside of class times. Career Services cannot grant permission nor excuse an absence from class. When there is a time conflict, it is up to students to make arrangements to seek permission from professors/instructors in advance of the interview.
How do I sign up for a mock interview?
You can sign up for a mock interview with a career advisor by calling 859-572-5680. We ask that you dress professionally and bring a copy of your resume to the interview. Career Services also sponsors a Mock Interview Day in the fall with employer volunteers conducting the interviews. You must dress professionally and bring a resume to these interviews, and sign up in advance through HireNKU.

Our career advisors can help get you started on your search and provide you with information about HireNKU and the various other resources available. See Co-ops/Internships on the left menu for further information.
What is the difference between a co-op and an internship?
While the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, a co-op is a paid work experience related to the student’s major (or minor), with academic credit earned. An internship is a curricular work experience which may or may not be for academic credit and may or may not be paid. See Co-ops/Internships on the left menu for further information.
